9th April 2011              Final event for 2010 Court
Queen Georgina and her Princesses Reanne and Lauren attended their final Carnival dance on Friday 8th April , Winning 2nd prize in the Court of Courts competition rounding of a very successful year , For a full list of prizes won Click Here, Chaperone Alan Said "The court have been great this year they've been a pleasure to work with and hope they will continue to support carnival"
30th March  2011          Cheques Presented
On Wednesday 30th March The Court were joined by The Mayor Councillor Ann Holland to present the cheques to this years chosen charities , Held at Metal in Chalkwell Park the event was to celebrate the achievements of carnival in 2010 , Small Grant cheques were presented to SOS Bus  and Citizens Advice Bureau Along with Busom Pals who were our second charity , The main cheque was presented to HARP this years chosen main benificary , they were delighted with the money raised and thanked everyone for their hard work, not only for raising the cash but also for the increased profile the carnival had brought them 
27th March 2011           Hornsey and Enfield Selections
Queen Georgina and Princess Reanne attended Hornsey and Enfield court selections respectively on the 19th and 26th of March 

Both girls had a good time at the events and wish the best of luck to Both Hornsey and Enfields new courts 

13th March 2011           3rd For Lauren
Well done to Princess Lauren, who came away with third place at the Basildon and Pitsea Carnvial Dance Princess competition. Along with Queen Georgina they both had a excellent time at the event held on Saturday 12th March 
6th March 2011            Stanford Streak Continues
Princess Reanne continued Southend Carnival Courts winning streak at the Stanford and Corringham Carnival Dance , Taking Best Senior Princess . a prize that Southend's Court have always done well in , this now being the third year in a row a princess has scooped the award , Queen Georgina offered her congratulations to both her princesses who did an excellent job representing the court 
19th February 2011        Tiptree Selection Dance
The Court attended the Tiptree Carnival Court selection evening on the 19th February , The First event of it kind held by Tiptree was a big success and we wish the Court and Tiptree Carnival all the best for the future 
06th February 2011        Ashingdon Crowning
The Court attended Ashingdon carnivals Court crowning on Saturday 5th February 2011, a good time was had by all and our best wishes go to the new Ashingdon Court 
02nd January 2011         Happy New Year
Queen Georgina and her Princesses Lauren and Reanne joined other courts from across Essex in the New Years day Parade in London, A very early start was had meeting up with the buses kindly loaned from the Castle Point Transport Museum, Travelling to London on the busses a good time was had by all , The entry organsied by the National Carnival Guild , of which Georgina is the Queen joined the parade and was seen by thousands of people both in London and on TV across the world , Despite the cold and damp conditions a fantastic time was had by all the courts involved .
28th November 2010       IT'S CHRISTMAS
It was a very christmasy weekend on the 26th and 27th November when the court helped turn on some Essex Christmas Lights. On Friday 26th they were joined by our junior Princess Abbie for the Leigh Christmas Lights Parade, despite the bitter cold they had fun and danced to christmas music the whole way 

 

On Saturday 27th the fun moved to Maldon and with even colder weather Queen Georgina and Princess Reanne danced on the float and helped win best float in the Parade . At the evening disco good fun was had by all

20th November 2010       Alice Impresses at Basildon
Basildon and Pitsea Carnival held their Fancy dress Presentation Evening on Saturday 20th November , Queen Georgina and Princess Reanne attended as "Alice in Wonderland" and "Belle" a good time was had by all. They were joined by other courts dressed as everything from Naughty School Girls to Cowgirls and everything in between. Georgina and Reanne are pictured here with Shelby from Ashgindon in her School Girl outfit and Southend's float crew member Ian who was dressed as Harry Hill. 
12th November 2010       Princess One/Two at Witham
Princesses Lauren and Reanne won first and Second prize respectively at the Witham Presentation dance on Friday 12th November . They both impressed the judges with Lauren beating Reanne in to second place 

An excellent time was had by all and despite Reanne being on crutches they danced the night away .Princess Lauren said "I was shocked to win first prize I think we both thought we didnt have  a chance against some of the competition", Princess Reanne was delighted for her fellow Court member" its great we both got a prize"  Queen Georgina Added "Im very very pround of my girls I love them both they should be joint first"

30th October 2010       Spooky time at Hornsey
Queen Georgina and Princess Reanne joined in the fun at Hornsey Carnivals Halloween themed presentation evening . Dressed as a Corpse Bride and a China Doll the girls impressed and Georgina won Best Costume . They Danced the evening away with other court members dressed as everything from devils to pirates .. Queen Georgina was also there in her role as Guild Queen 
23rd October 2010       Essex Carnival Social Evening
Essex Carnivals held its first Social evening on Saturday 23rd October . Held in Maldon, Carnivals from Witham , Braintree, Maldon, Dunmow and Ashingdon joined us for a really good evening
16th October 2010       Georgina Becomes National Guild Queen 
Saturday 16th October saw the selection of the National Carnival Guild Court , Southend Carnvial are delighted to annouce that Our Queen Georgina was selected as the National Carnival Guild Queen after competing against 5 other courts from across the country in a Queen of Queens style competition  , She will be joined in the court by Junior Princess Stacey from Stanford and corringham , Senior Princess Rachael from Basildon and Pitsea and Deptuy Queen Brogan also from Stanford and Corringham, she will visit events and Carnivals in this role for the next year ,

Queen Georgina Said "the support was amazing last night, from my Princess Reanne, my association, and all the others there and even the executives of the guild, all in all an amazing night, im so proud to be able to represent the guild as their Queen for the next year"

 

25th September 2010    Brilliant end to Summer Season
The Finale of the summer season took place at Burnham on Saturday 25th September, Despite the weather turning chilly the Court had a fantastic time dancing to the music and soaking up the atmosphere of this unique Carnvial , The evening was topped off in grand style by winning "Best Visiting Queens Float"  for the first time since 2007 and bringing home the "Challenge Cup" 

Queen Georgina Said "I have had a fantastic summer and met loads of new friends , tonight has been a fitting end to the really great summer, it was excellent to see so many people turn up to watch the carnival" 

18th September 2010    Wickford Carnival
Wickford carnival was held on saturday 18th September , A glorious sunny day made for a great carnival with hundreds watching the colourful parade, Princess Lauren said " Despite my partner Princess Reanne being absent through illness Queen Georgina and I had a great time on the float , we were even joined by carnivals newest member Harry who slept the whole time"   
05th September 2010   Ashingdon Carnival
The Carnivals keep coming during September, Starting with our nearest neighbours Ashingdon. A good day was had by the court who have becomes good freinds with the Ashingdon Court , Queen Georgina Said "Shelby is a fantastic Queen she is very experinced and I've learnt a lot from her , she is very dedicated like me and we get on well , we've helped her out at other Carnivals and it was great to make her big day special " Dispite no prizes this week a great time was had and we look forward to Wickford and Burham Carnvials in the next few weeks , Pictures of Ashingdon Carnival can be found at the Ashingdon Carnival Facebook  group by clicking here
29th August 2010     3 Prize Haul at Stanford
Returning to action after a well earned rest after Southend Carnival week the court attended Stanford and Corringham Carnival, this was the first time a Southend court have attended this event and were rewarded with 3 prizes for their efforts, firstly taking best “Visiting Queens Float” and “Court of the Day” in the parade and also getting second in the “Court of Courts” competition at the evening dance. Queen Georgina was delighted with the prizes “it’s great to win these prizes we’ve had a busy few weeks and this is a nice surprise, I never thought we’d win this many prizes” , With Float manager Colin on maternity leave the float was crewed by Ian ”it’s great for the float to win a prize but it’s nothing without the Court on board creating the atmosphere”
22nd August 2010     Procession another Sucess

After a hectic time of many varied events the week culminated in the Grand Illuminated procession along the Southend Seafront. The day began with a Queens tea at the Civic Centre. We were joined by Courts from Ashingdon, Basildon and Pitsea, Burnham on Crouch, Hornsey, Stanford and Corringham, Wickford and representatives from the Carnival Guild. Also UK Carnivals and the Queen from Bishopstoke attended. After an excellent tea the Mayor Councillor Ann Holland and her escort judged the Court of the Day which was won by Ashingdon. Then it was down to the Seafront on board an open top bus, it was a little bit windy but great fun. The Courts then joined their floats and the judging took place. Burnham on Crouch 1st, Stanford and Corringham 2nd and Ashingdon 3rd. The Seafront was packed with people to watch a brilliant procession. At the halfway break there was a fantastic firework display. The Southend Court then watched the parade pass and thanked everyone for coming.   

20th August 2010      Nazareth House Visit

19rg August 2010    Welcome Baby Harry
Southend Carnival wishes to congratulate Colin and Maxine Jones on the birth of Baby Harry Jones , Born on the 17/08/10 at 00.59 he weighed 6lb 6oz and is doing well , Welcome to the team Harry Jones
16th August 2010   Disabled get morning at "Carnival Fair"
The annual morning for disabled children and their carers was held on Monday 16th August at the carnival fair in Chalkwell Park , a great time was had by everyone including many groups like the Ecowings pictured here with the Carnival Court, The Mayor Ann Holland also joined in on some rides with court 
13th August 2010   Offical opening of the "Carnival Fair"
The "Carnival Fair" was offically opened despite the wet weather on Friday 13th August by Southend Mayor Ann Hollond and the Carnival Court, Joined by Local MPs David Amess and James Dudridge and the Youth Mayor and Deputy Youth Mayor they gamely tested all the rides and even enjoyed a rossi ice cream, who are supporting the carnvial this year  

The Fair is now open daily untill Saturday 21st from 2pm till 10.30 (sunday 8.00pm) so please come join in the fun its a great day out !! Even the Mayor can vouch for that !!!

 

   

08th August 2010   Maldon Carnival
Southend Carnival court attended Maldon Carnival on saturday 7th August a good day was had by all despite the indifferent weather , The crowds came to see this popular carnival on the circuit 
04th August 2010  Taxi Drivers Outing
Queen Georgina and Princess Reanne spent an enjoyable day with 150 children on the Taxi Drivers annual outing. This year they stayed in Southend.

After a very early start from Roots Hall car park the taxis travelled in convoy to the Kursaal where they went bowling, there was then a trip down the pier and the afternoon was spent in Adventure Island. Despite torrential rain and a thunderstorm everyone made it safely back to Garons Leisure Centre for tea and a disco, everyone was tired but very happy after an excellent day out.

18th July 2010    Mile of Coins Success
A Mile of Coins was held in Southend high street on Saturday 17th July for the radiotherapy unit at Southend Hospital, Queen Georgian and Princess Reanne collected money and danced for the passing public  
18th July 2010    London Taxis Arrive
Queen Georgina and her princessess Lauren and Reanne joined the London Taxidrivers Fund for underprivileged Children on their annual trip to Southend. The girls greeted them at the Cliffs Pavilion on their return from Adventure Island, where they had tea and a disco. The Court then waved them off from the sea front as the line of colourfully decorated taxis left for their journey home after a fun filled day in Southend.
11th July 2010    Georgina Delighted With 2nd at Witham 
Queen Georgina was delighted to recieve 2nd Place for Visiting Queen and Float at the Witham Carnival , With tempratures in the 30s the crowds flocked to this popular carnival , Georgina said " I'm so proud to win 2nd prize here, there are some really good courts here and I am delighted with the prize" Her princesses added "we are so proud of our Queen she did a wonderful job "

 

03rd July 2010             Hornsey Carnival 3rd Prize
Southend and Ashingdon join as one Photo by Tina Ryan The Court attended Hornsey Carnival on Saturday 3rd July, On this blisteringly hot day Queen Georgina and Princess Reanne were again joined by Ashingdon Deputy Queen Shelby, The 3rd place for float Photo By Sheila JonesFloat won 3rd Prize for Best Visiting Queens Float and everyone enjoyed another excellent carnival , Southend Carnival would like to wish Princess Lauren better as she was unforunately ill for this event and congratulations to our guest for the day Shelby who won the London Queen of Queens competition   
02nd July 2010             WeighWatchers Cheque presented to Carnival
The money raised on the sponsored walk held in May (see story 9th May) Was presented to Queen Georgina and her princesses Lauren and Reanne at the shoeburyness branch of WeightWatchers on Friday 2nd July , The Monies raised will go to this years chosen carnival charities 
26th June 2010            Tiptree Carnival Returns
A big well done to the Southend Carnival Queen Georgina and Princess Reanne along with their guest Ashingdon Deputy Queen Shelby who entertained the crowds at Tiptree Carnival , the float and the people watching were rocking and everyone involved had areally excellent time. We would like to thank Tiptree for making us very welcome on this their first carnival for 5 years and we wish them all the best for the future events  
21st June 2010            Harmony in Southend
A Southend Community in Harmony event was held at Southend High School for Boys on Sunday 20th June , the chance was taken to publicise Carnvial and the 2010 Carnival Court helped out with a guess the amount of sweets in a jar game and also giving out posters and cards about this years event , A good time was had by all at this event 
21st June 2010            Basildon parade kicks off season
Basildon Carnival took place on Saturday 19th June 2010, This was the first outing on their float for the 2010 Carnival Court , Queen Georgina and Princess Lauren smiled and danced the whole route and stayed into the evening to take part in the compeition , despite not winning a good time was had by all 
15th May 2010             Second at Maldon
photo by Colin JonesThe court attended their first evening dance on Saturday 15th May , This was their first chance to try out their court of courts curtsey .  Despite intitial nerves the girls were fantastic and won second prize a great achivement for their first entry into competition .
9th May 2010              Court do WeightWatchers walk
The Court and several members of the Southend Carnival Association took part in a WeightWatchers sponsored walk with proceeds going to the association's chosen charities. The wet and chilly morning didn't dampen the girls spirits and the completed the walk from Uncle Toms Cabin to the Sealife Centre,  and back in a little under 2 hours, a distance of just over 4 miles   
3rd May 2010              St Margaret's Church fete
The 3rd of May saw the Court open the annual St Margarets Church fete in Leigh, this now regular visit has become a firm favourite with courts and the girls enjoy the hospitality and taking part in the events being held 
25th April 2010            Hectic Start for new Court 
After the new court were Crowned on 17th April (Click Here for more details) they have started their reign with a hectic schedule of 4 events in one week 

Starting on Wednesday 21st  April at the Wimpy store in Shoeburyness to give the prizes for the annual drawing competition . This being their first event the girls were very excited and had a really good time , 

The following weekend of the 24th and 25th April  saw the girls attend 3 events in the town , Starting on the Saturday with the Sycarmore Fund childrens party , They Danced and joined in with the childrens games including an easter egg hunt 

On the sunday they attended the St Georges Day service in the morning and also the Taxi Drivers Easter Party where again they joined in the fun and games with the children 

Congratulation to the new girls for the first week and we hope they will have an enjoyable year ahead

22nd August 2009         Carnival Night Success
The annual Southend Carnival Grand Illuminated Procession was held last night and watched by thousands of people along Southend Seafront. There were over 60 entries in this year’s procession.

Southend Carnival Queen Hannah said, ‘it was great to see so many people out on a beautiful summer’s evening to watch the procession and support local charities, the SYCARMORE Fund and Bosom Pals Appeal. My Princesses and I would like to thank everyone for coming and making this such a fun evening.’

20th August 2009          Nazareth House Visit
The court again visited Nazareth House to meet the residents for a coffee morning , Queen Hannah , Princesses Lauren and Kaddy chatted to everyone and visited some of the residents rooms one of whom was celebrating her 102nd birthday 
19th August 2009          Children's Event Success 
The "Teddy Bears Picnic" and "Children's Fancy Dress" events were again a big success and everyone enjoyed a really hot day and had fun , once again we would like to thank Michelle and her team from "Land of Make Believe" for running the popular picnic event again. The standard in the Children's fancy dress was excellent and the judges had a hard job making their decisions

18th August 2009                  Junior Prince and Princess Crowned
This morning strong competition from around Southend was seen at the first ever Southend Carnival Junior Prince and Princess competition. Queen Hannah said, ‘judging the children here today has been really hard as they are all deserving of the prize’.

17th August 2009           ASDA Collection 
The Court held a collection at ASDA Shoeburyness , Southend Carnival would like to extend their thanks to everyone at ASDA for their continued support
17th August 2009           Disabled Morning at Fair
The Annual disabled event was held at the fair on Monday 17th August , the court and Mayor Brian Smith along with MP David Amess helped the children and their families have an enjoyable morning 
16th August 2009            Dog Show
The Companion dog show held on Sunday 16th August was a big success, Attended by the Court and Deputy Mayor, Queen Hannah and her princesses chatted to the crowd and picked their favourite dog in the courts choice class, The event was well attended and Queen Hannah Said " it was really hard to choose which dog i liked best, they were all great"

15th August 2009            Meet the Court / Race For life Prize Giving
Queen Hannah and her Princesses took time away from their meet the court day to give prizes to the winners of a Youth Council Competition to design a new super hero for race for life , the cancer research charity , the winners are picture here with the court and other members of the youth council 

The court spent the day in the high street holding a carnival court cashcade to raise funds for the carnival charities , a good day was had by all and the court enjoyed chatting to many of the passers by

14th August 2009            Official Fair Open

The official opening of the fair took place on Friday 14th August, undertaken by the Queen Hannah and the Mayor of Southend Councillor Brian Smith and MP James Duddridge, Hannah and her princesses then tried out many of the rides on their official visit

The fair is open daily from 2pm to 10.30 (Excluding Sunday when it closes at 8pm) until Saturday 22nd August

14th August 2009           Bouncy Castle Fun Days
The Carnival Court spent an afternoon visiting the Bouncy Castles in Priory Park. They enjoyed meeting all the children and trying out all of the various inflatables. The event is supporting Bosom Pals, which is one of the charities carnival is supporting this year.

08th August 2009            Clacton Carnival
Southend Carnival Court attended Clacton Carnival for the very first time on Saturday 8th August, Winning a couple more prize along the way, out of 10 visiting Courts the float took second prize and Queen Hannah scooped 3rd in the Queens Competition

The Carnival was well attended and an excellent time was had by all Queen Hannah said "its really good to be the first court from Southend able to attend Clacton Carnival , being a seaside town like us it's nice to link up in this way"

05th August 2009             Taxi Drivers Outing Success 

Southend Carnival Court had a very early start as they went on the Taxi Drivers Charity Fund for Children’s annual outing. They met at Roots Hall car park, where they were joined by Ashingdon Carnival Court.

 

 The colourful convoy made its way to Belchamps where various activities were laid on for the children. The court took part in a treasure hunt, go karting, climbing a rock wall and the scary assault course with various ropes, poles and the leap of faith!

The weather was lovely and the day was finished off with songs round a campfire. All the children including the Court went home happy but very tired after a long but enjoyable day.

01st August 2009     Another double at Maldon
Queen Hannah returned from holiday to scoop two further prizes at the Maldon Carnival on 1st August , Winning "Best Queens Float" and "Court of the Day" with her Princesses.

Another excellent day was had by all despite the inclement weather 

19th July 2009             WeightWatchers Walk 
Princesses Lauren and Kaddy Started a sponsored weightWatchers Walk from Benfleet station to Old Leigh and back on Sunday 19th July. 

The Walk in was aid of the British heart foundation 

18th July 2009            Coggeshall Carnival
Winners at CoggeshallWith Queen Hannah having a well deserved Holiday Princesses Lauren and Kaddy flew the flag for Southend at Coggeshall Carnival, Scooping Third Prize for Visiting Court and Queens Float, 

The Girls enjoyed another excellent carnival and would like to thank Coggeshall and everyone who made it a good day   

14th July 2009            London Taxi Drivers Visit
On the 14th July the London Taxi drivers fund for under Privileged children had their annual visit to Southend, Queen Hannah was on duty to welcome the children to their afternoon meal and to wave off the taxis on their return to London 

 

She partied with the children and helped them have an enjoyable end to their day

12th July 2009            Double Seconds at Witham 
The Court continued their prize winning form at Witham Carnival on Saturday 11th July with a brace of seconds, Winning second place in the best visiting Queens float category and Queen Hannah getting second in the queen of Queens Contest  

Despite the mixed weather a good day was had by all

05th July 2009           3 Prizes at Hornsey
The 2009 Carnival season continued on 4thJuly with Hornsey Carnival, The court came away with 2 Prizes winning best visiting Queens float and Court of the Day, Chaperones Alan and Sheila also won chaperones o f the day making a hat-trick of prizes 

 

Queen Hannah said "its nice to win prizes but it not all about that its about raising money for charities"

14th June 2009         Fun at Summer Fetes
hook a duckThe Court had a fun afternoon attending two Summer Fetes. First the Court opened St Mary's Church Fete, they enjoyed all Dueling at the fun daythe stalls and games including hook a duck and the giant inflatable slide. 

The afternoon continued with a visit to the Avenue Baptist fun day, again they chatted to the visitors and had a go on the different attractions including gladiator style dueling and taking penalties

17th May 2009           Third at Maldon

They had a enjoyable evening and danced with all the other visiting courts

09th May 2009           Busy May Bank  Holiday for Court

Starting on the Sunday with the annual Taxi Drivers Party, the court enjoyed dancing with the children and even joined in the belly dancing

26th April 2009          Courts First Events
Wimpy VisitJust a few days after being crowned the new Southend Carnival court attended their first events, Their first duty on Wednesday 22nd April was the prize giving for the Easter drawing competition at the Wimpy restaurant  in Shoeburyness, Queen Hannah said "it was a really good event to attend it was nice to see the children happy when we gave them their prizes"

The court also attended the St Georges day service on Sunday 26th April

08th March 2009       More Prizes for Court
Princess DaniPrincess ElyseThe 2008 court continued their prize winning as they attended the Stamford and Corringham Dance. Stepping up from Junior Princess which she won at her first event in April last year Princess Elyse came joint third in the Senior Princess competition, But our congratulations goes to Princess Dani who improved on her second Place in Senor competition a year ago to win first prize 

 

The court have a few more events to attend before their reign ends on April 18th

Saturday 7th February saw the selection of the 2009/10 Southend on sea carnival court. Their identities will remain a secret until their Crowning on Saturday 18th April 2009 details of which can be found Here 

The Current Court will continue attending events throughout Essex until this time 

1st December 2008      Court celebrate Xmas
On Saturday 29th November the Court visited Maldon to participate in their Christmas parade and disco to turn on the towns festive lights. Despite the wet weather a good day was had by all, The Christmas themed float won first prize in the competition. Queen Rachael and her princesses had a good time dancing along to the Christmas songs,

A "Miss Personality" contest was held in the evening and both Princesses came away with prizes Elyse winning 1st and Dani 2nd Prize 

Queen Rachael, Princess Dani and Princess Elyse would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy new Year and look forward to seeing you all in the future 

27th September 2008      Summer Season Finale

Supported by many members of the association who came to watch, they came away with Highly commended. With music rocking and lights shining brightly they wowed the crowds watching. On this hot and sunny afternoon the court were only beaten into second place by Burnham's float who's carnival they attend next weekend

24th August 2008             Procession Success 

Southend Carnival Queen and her Court have just completed a challenging week visiting Southend Hospital, Nazareth House, Adventure Island and all of the Carnival events around the town. Last night the Court were delighted to see thousands of people line the seafront to watch the many floats and pedestrians parade along.

 

Queen Rachael said, ‘I am really proud of all those who have clearly put a lot of effort into building their floats and costumes. I particularly like the Art of the Village sea themed float and I have enjoyed dancing to the DJs on the ASDA truck! The procession really made the seafront and town come alive.’

 

The procession takes a full year to put together and this year was part of Southend’s celebrations over the bank holiday weekend to welcome the Olympic torch to London.

Southend Carnival Association Chairman, Chris Charles said ‘although the fair and other events are a lot of fun the procession is my favourite and I would like to thank all those who have been involved in all of the events, including volunteers and those who attended.’ This years main beneficiaries is Havens Hospices, who also entered the procession, it is hoped with the help of residents across the town a large sum of money has been raised for them.

15th August 2008             Nazareth House Visit
The Court visited Nazareth House on Friday 15th August. They attended a coffee morning and spoke with many of the residents. The Court wish to extend their thanks to everyone who made them so welcome

15th August 2008             Hospital Visit
The Court made its annual visit to Southend Hospital on Thursday 14th August. They were met by Consultant Tony O'Brien who showed them round the stroke unit. They saw the new equipment which was purchased with money donated to Strokebusters from our carnival collection 2007. They then made a visit to Neptune children's ward.
14th August 2008              Children’s Events a big success

The carnival children’s events were held on the 12th and 13th August. The events were well attended with Tuesdays  “Children’s Competition” drawing a big crowd with entries in every class including the twin’s class which has not had entries for a number of years. Good fun was had by all. The event was attended by the Mayor and Carnival court, who chose the Champion Boy and Champion Girl.

Once again the “Children’s Fancy Dress” competition was the most successful for many years with 116 children entering the various classes, With entries ranging from Jelly fish and Chickens to topical entrants from the Olympics, The Child and guardian class was once again well supported with everyone entering into the spirit of the competition

14th August 2008              All Aboard the Carnival Train

11th August 2008        Disabled Children Enjoy morning at Fair
a morning at the carnival fair was held for the disabled and under privileged children of the town on Monday 11th August 

The showman opened many of the smaller rides for the children and the Mayor and Carnival Court attended and took children on the dodgems

10th August 2008        Carnival Dog Show 
The annual Southend Carnival Dog Show in conjunction with Southend Canine Society was held 
yesterday in Priory Park, Southend. Although it threatened to rain more than once both the dogs and 
their owners enjoyed a sunny afternoon of competition. 
 
The day began with pedigree classes for more serious competitors and then finished with the 
novelty classes later in the afternoon. Queen Rachel said, ‘It was wonderful to see so many 
people in the Park and I was delighted that the competition was open to all not just pedigree owners.’
 
The Major and Southend Carnival Court attended the event as they had their own classes 
to judge. Princess Elyse mentioned, ‘It was extremely challenging to select our favourite 
dog from the 40 who entered our class as I want to take them all home with me!’
 
The fancy dress section gained great attention with entries dressed as characters from 
Star Wars, swimmers and even King Henry the 8th and his 6 wives made an appearance.

09th August 2008     Havens Representative Enjoys Fair

 We hope she enjoyed her visit.

08th August 2008     Court and Mayor open Fair 
Opening day at the fairMayor Councillor Gwen Horrigan and Mp David Amess joined the carnival court to officially open the annual fair. Showman Don Drake showed them round the fair and gave the court free goes on the rides.  The fair is open daily from 2pm until Saturday 16th August 

There are half price afternoons on Tuesday 12th and Thursday 14th where vouchers from the echo or the Programme are not valid

06th August 2008     Taxi Drivers outing to Clacton
With carnival week just days away the court joined the Southend Taxi Drivers Fund on their annual outing to Clacton. They joined the convoy of taxi's heading down the A12 to the seaside where they met up with Clacton's own Carnival Court Queen Dana and Princesses Eleyse and Charis. 

 

They had fun all day and joined the children on the pier. The day ended with a meal and disco before heading home.  

03rd August 2008     Maldon Carnival
The Court on Stanfords FloatThe court continued the preparations for Southend carnival week with a visit to the Maldon Carnival. Although the float was unavailable the girls still managed to have a good time even hitching a lift on Stanford and Corringham carnival queens float.

22nd July 2008          Coggeshall Carnival
The prizes continued coming at Coggeshall carnival on Saturday 19th July with a second place for the float . The day was enjoyed by everyone and a tea was provided for the visiting courts. 
15th July 2008          Witham Carnival
The Court attended Witham Carnival on July 12th 2008. the procession was well attended and  coming away with Highly Commended the day was enjoyed by all, Princess Dani said "it's not the winning it's the taking part and raising money that counts"

15th July 2008           80 Years of London Taxi Drivers Outing 

Court waving of taxis on their way homeOn Wednesday 9th July the annual outing of the London taxi drivers came to Southend. There were over a 100 taxis and despite the weather the 300 or so children enjoy ed their trip to the seaside.

 

The Court greeted them on their return to the Cliffs Pavilion for a lovely tea. There was also dancing and the court joined the children on the dance floor. 

 

The Court then went to the seafront and waved all the taxis off on their way home.

07th July 2008           Delight / Drama and the Spirit of Carnival
On Saturday 5th July the court made the trip to North London to participate in the Hornsey carnival. With changeable weather the day started well with the float winning it's first prize of the 2008 season winning "Best Visiting Queens Float" awarded by the Mayor of Haringay, A delighted Queen Rachael said "its brilliant to win our first honour with the float, the crew have put a lot of hard work into the design and their hard work compliments us on the float making a winning combination"

Standford and Corringham to the rescueThe procession started well with music blaring and the court and the crowds dancing we headed along the route, but due to problems with our towing vehicle the spirit of carnival was shown to it full effect. With us stranded our fellow carnival friends Dave Sargent and his son Rob who had a break down truck in the procession joined other carnival associations in putting our vehicle on the tow truck and hitching the float to the back so the girls could remain on their own float. Southend carnival association wish to express it's grateful thanks to all that helped with the dramatic situation, Alan Jones Court chaperone said " its great to see how every one rallied round, its what carnival is all about" 

Southend carnival association would also like to thank Daniel from D & G Cars for his assistance on the journey home from Hornsey and for rescuing us from being stuck on the A127 for 3 hours

June 2008          Court attend first carnival
The court attended their first carnival procession on Saturday 21st June. Basildon and Pitsea carnival is traditionally Southend's first carnival of the season and for the first time was held on a Saturday and took a new route thorough Basildon town centre itself. the float is pictured here in Basildon high street  
June 2008          Grease is the word
Queen Rachael & Princess Elyse took Princess Dani on a visit to their old primary school, St Mary's C of E Prittlewell, to watch the drama club's production of Grease. They were joined by the Mayor Councillor Gwen Horrigan. They all enjoyed a great evening of entertainment Queen Rachael said "It was a wonderful evening, and all the children worked extremely hard to produce a really professional show which wowed all the audience".
May 2008           Court start sponsored walk for WeightWatchers

May 2008           Court Help Strokebusters Mile of Coins

Queen Rachael and her Princesses Dani and Elyse had a good time collecting money and placing it on the floor to spell out Mile of Coins 

Organiser Malachy O'Sullivan was pleased with the help and thanked them for attending and helping raise over £400 for the appeal

May 2008          Court Visit May day fete 
For the second year running Southend carnival court attended the annual fete at St Margaret's Church, Leigh on Sea. After opening the event they greeted visitors and had a look round and had tries on all the stalls which were there, They tried the famous pancakes and had a go on the bouncy castle

Southend  Carnival Association come together to support Colin an dMaxine

Southend  Carnival Association came together to celebrate the wedding of two of the  Associations most active members Colin and Maxine Jones. The ceremony took place at St Mary's Church Prittlewell The Happy Coupleon the 26th April 2008.

Association members joined family, friends and work mates for a fantastic evening, Carnival Courts from 2003, 2006 2007 and 2008 joined in the dancing. 

Colin and Maxine wish to extend their thanks to all the members who came along and made this a really  special days

April 2008               Busy First Weekend for new Court
The 2008 carnival court got of to a busy start with three engagements in their first weekend 

Starting on the evening of Saturday 19th they attended Stanford and Corringham carnivals presentation evening . Where Princess Elyse and Dani competed in  a junior and senior princess competition respectively. Princess Elyse came first in the junior princess competition and Dani came a respectable second behind Maldon in the senior competition, these being the first engagements this is a massive achievement for both girls as they were up against courts who have competed throughout the last year. This continuing the our success at this event following on from Princess Shelby in 2007

On Sunday 20th April the court attended 2 events in Southend with a St. Georges day service at St. Johns Church which was also attended by the Mayor and local councillors. The second event was the Taxi Drivers Easter party where they helped judge an Easter bonnet competition and danced with the children. February 2008        Court attends Mayors Buffet
Southend Carnival Court joined members of Southend Youth Council at a buffet reception hosted by the Mayor of Southend at Porters. The Mayor, Councillor Daphne White, said she wanted to celebrate all the good work the Youth of the town do, and how proud of them she is and what a credit to the town they all are.

January 2008         Court Attend New Years Parade
For the second year running Southend Carnival Court attended the New Years Day Parade in London. They Joined other Courts from across the uk and an assortment of Bands, Cheerleaders and decorated floats from most of the London boroughs to parade from Westminster to Piccadilly passing Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly circus on route, The crowds flocked to see this annual event. Although not broadcast in the UK it is seen around the world by many thousands of people  

 

Queen Kristy said "It was an amazing experience I only had three hours sleep after seeing the new year in but wouldn't of missed this for the world"

November 2007      Leigh Christmas Lights Switch On
Southend carnival Court attended the annual switching on of the Leigh Christmas Lights on Friday 30th November 2007. 

They joined the parade with Father Christmas, Morris dancers and the Essex Samba Band, with the float decorated in Christmas lights and festive music playing the parade went from Marine parade to Leigh Road 

Despite heavy rain the court enjoyed every minute of the festive parade and the crowds braved the weather to watch

Kristie said "it was rewarding to see all the hard work put in by the band of volunteers who count the collection".

October 2007         Princesses Start Charity Walk

Hannah and Cherie meet with the walkers Photo by Alan jonesBright and early Sunday 30th September morning after spending Saturday night in Burnham the Court helped see off Ollie Brown, a self employed painter and decorator from Leigh on his 38 mile walk from Southend to Ilford along with other local people. Ollie made the walk for 10 different charities including St. John Ambulance and The Royal British Legion.

 

Support came not only from the Princesses but also Olympiad Roger Mills who visited from Cambridge. On arrival in Ilford Ollie was greeted by Hornsey and Waltham Forest Carnival Courts.

 

The girls have now returned back to school but will be taking part in a variety of events around the town until the end of their reign in April 2008. Princess Cherie said, ‘I would greatly recommend applying to be part of the Court to any aspiring Queen or Princess in the town as it has been an amazing opportunity’, she continued, ‘I have met many people in Southend whom I would have never had contact with unless I had been involved with Carnival. I will be sad to hand over my crown.’

September 2007    Burnham Carnival Double Success

People often wondered what the Southend Carnival Court get up to after Carnival Week in mid-August. They are incredibly busy and each weekend represent the town across Essex

 

Last weekend they attended the annual Burnham Carnival. They were awarded a first prize for both their float and the court of the day. 

 

Princess Hannah said, ‘whilst we  are disappointed that Burnham Carnival will be the last in this summer’s season we have had a fantastic day and are delighted to have been awarded first prize in all the categories we have entered.’ 

 

Prizes Galore at Burnham Photo by Ian JonesBurnham Carnival 2007 will go down as one of the highlights of the 2007 Carnival courts year, The court sang and danced the whole way round the route and even curtsied for the judges. A Rousing rendition of "We are the Champions" ended what has been a classic summer season with the court winning a prize at every carnival attended.

September 2007   Seahorse Return from 2 Year Holiday 

Seahorses leave iin february Photo by Alan JonesSouthend Carnivals two on loan seahorses have returned from the 2 year break touring Kent Carnivals 

 

The seahorse left Southend on a snowy Sunday in February 2005 Southend Carnival Association members Colin and Ian Jones handed over the two seahorses to Mel and Maurice then of Folkestone Carnival . 

Following a successful 2005 season with Folkestone Carnival the two seahorses  continued on their tour of the South Coast by spending 2006 on the Sandwich Carnival Queen Float.

The seahorses were returned to Southend at Hornsey Carnival and Mel now with Invicta Carnival is seen handing them back to Colin and Ian of Southend Carnival

June 2007    Carnival Court off to Flier at Basildon

Southend Carnival Court with Basildon & Pitesa Carnival CourtSouthend’s Carnival Court won 1st prize for the Courts float at Basildon carnival on Sunday 24th June 2007, the first outing for the float this year. The new design featuring improved treasure chest and lobster pot wowed the crowds and took the honors. Float Manager Colin Jones said “we repainted the base blue to improve the undersea theme and added the lobster pot which was a big success at the new years day parade”

 

 

The day got better during the evening dance as Queen Kristie came second in the Queen of Queen’s competition and also came third in a court of courts competition with her Princesses Hannah and Cherie. Court Manager Alan Jones added, “this is an excellent start to the reign, the girls did brilliantly considering this was their first competition of this kind “

April 2007    Tearful Goodbye and Happy Hello

The annual crowning of the new Carnival Court took place on Saturday 14th April. An excellent evening was had by all. The evening started with the presentation of the donations to local charities from the street collection followed by the farewell speeches from the outgoing court Carly, Chantelle and Shelby. 

 

 

Their last task as Carnival Court was to crown the new Queen Kristie and her princesses Hannah and Cherie. After the crowning old and new courts danced the evening away with visiting courts from Basildon, Havering and Wickford.

 

 

Southend Carnival Association would like to thank Carly, Chantelle and Shelby for a brilliant year and wish the new Court all the best for the coming year.

December 2006   Court get ready for Christmas and New Year
Southend Carnival Court at the Bromley Christmas ParadeSouthend Carnival Court have been busy in the run up to Christmas with visits to Bromley in Kent and Leigh on Sea to support Christmas light switch-on events.

The under sea theme on the float was adapted to form a snowy Christmas scene with a Reindeer and a Christmas tree. Although bad weather at Leigh didn’t dampen spirits

August 2006    Hummerdays Luxury Limousine Hire

Limousine provided by Hummerdays Luxury Limousine HireCarnival Queen Carly and her Princesses Chantelle and Shelby would like to thank Hummerdays Luxury Limousine Hire for the use of one of their Limo’s on Southend Carnival afternoon.

Queen Carly was overjoyed at the surprise when she was picked up to be taken to the Carnival Tea at Saxon Hall. She Said “ we didn’t realise anything special had been arranged for us it was a big shock when Alan and Sheila turned up in a big white Limo”.

Princesses Chantelle and Shelby caused a massive stir in their street with neighbours coming out to see them leave and take photos.

April 2006   Carnival Court 2006 Crowned

The Event was attended by the Mayor of Southend Chris Dandridge and MP David Amess who performed the Ceremony along with Neil Raven Sponsor of The Carnival Court and 1989 Carnival Queen Hazel Starling.

Also in attendance were Visiting Carnival Courts from Thurrock and Ashingdon who danced the night away with the newly crowned Queen Carly and her Princesses Shelby and Chantelle and their Families.

Outgoing Queen Tess performed an emotional Poem thanking everyone for their help and support throughout the Year and Princesses Jessica and Stacy also performed farewell speeches and presentations before handing the Reins to Carly, Shelby and Chantelle.

Carly who was Princess in 2004 was surprised to find fellow 2004 Princess Beth had turned up to support her.

The Evening was a great Success and we wish the New Court all the best for the Coming year.
